The Appeal seeks to preserve and save the patrimony of St John Henry Newman. This includes his library - containing over 13000 volumes - and his study, which has been kept exactly as it was when the cardinal died. The work on the library consisted of removing all the books so that work on an external wall could take place to stop it collapsing. The lantern roof was also removed for essential repair, and an increased gradient engineered on the rest of the roof.
The Cardinal's room also underwent significant restoration to fix a leak and to restore the floor.
The Work has cost in excess of £1 million of which a great deal has been kindly paid by an individual in the United States. However this still leaves more than £300,000 to be funded by small donations. If you able to donate, the Fathers of the Oratory would be sincerely grateful.
